Inside basketball, a go for it shot is an attempt to score a basket by jumping, commonly straight higher, &, mid-flight, propelling a ball within an arc into the basket. These are considered the easiest shot to produce from either a few feet away. A purpose of the go for it is to produce it further hard for the defender to block.
A select few fantabulous NBA jump shooters have been Pete Maravich, Larry Bird, Glen Rice, Ray Allen, Peja Stojakovic and Dirk Nowitzki.
Occasionally the go for it shot is too known as the jumper.
